Dulwich Park v SPCC

Always nice to get a chance to play at a proper cricket ground with a grass pitch and a pavilion with a TV and a bar...

We field first with Charlie and Adam opening the bowling. Charlie strikes in his second over with a wicket maiden. Adam keeps his end tight too and finishes his spell with three overs for just 6 runs. Graham is first change and makes an immediate impact with another wicket maiden to dismiss their number three.

Rain intervenes with the score on 41-2 off 13. The rain gets quite hard and some are convinced it will be a write-off, but with the 3rd day of the 3rd England v Sri Lanka Test from Lords on the TV and an early lunch time passes enjoyably. Soon the sun is out and in not too long we are back on the field, the covers having done their job pretty well.

The hosts begin to recover and build a partnership until Richard gets their other opener LBW for 29. Ibrahim picks up the next two wickets, both caught. The opposition are still grinding out runs until Charlie comes back for a hostile and accurate second spell and takes 3 wickets in successive overs to leave them 8 down. A farcical run-out, the result of good team work on our part finishes their innings on 124 all out off 29 overs.

Jon and Tom open our innings positively with Jon in particularly fine form and they race to 50-0 in 5 overs. They continue in this vein until Jon is out bowled for a rapid and fluent 63. The job is almost done. Adam falls to the same bowler bringing Ibrahim to the crease to join Tom in knocking off the runs with ease as we cruise to an 8 wicket victory in 14.2 overs. They were sporting to lend us a fielder, but it was a sweet victory with only nine players...
